This private tour with an expert archaeological guide – a real archaeologist – will allow you to enjoy in the best possible way the most popular archaeological places in our area.
Your private guide will spend the whole day by your side, organizing everything (purchase of entrance tickets to archaeological sites, timing, break for a snack, etc.).
Why should you choose this tour ?
- With a private local tour guide, you’ll cover all the excursion at a pace that suits you, visiting the places that interest you the most. Your guide will have plenty of time to tailor the tour to meet your expectations and to answer all of your questions.
- Over the centuries the classical monuments (Greek and Roman) were dismembered in order to build churches, palaces, ordinary houses. Neverthless, what happened in the Roman Empire did not take place in Pompeii, Herculaneum and Oplontis due to the 79 a.d. eruption of Mt Vesuvius which buried and hid those ancient towns for 1500 years, hence the reason why those archaeological sites are so incredibly well preserved.
- Grab your chance to enjoy this amazing tour that will make you live an unforgettable “cultural experience” in one day.

Oplontis, the villa of the Nero’s second wife
The excavations of Oplontis lie at the heart of the modern town of Torre Annunziata.
The name Oplontis is mentioned only in the Tabula Peutingeriana, a medieval copy of an ancient map showing the road network throughout the Roman Empire. In this large parchment map the name Oplontis indicates some buildings between Pompeii and Herculaneum.
One of the buildings in Oplontis was the Roman residential “Villa of Poppea Sabina”, inserted in the list of the “UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE”. It is a great dwelling dating back to the first century BC and enlarged in the Imperial Age. It was being restored at the time of the eruption.
It is generally attributed to Poppaea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero, or at least it was part of the heritage of the imperial family.
This amazing villa is considered one of the best preserved archaeological sites from the Roman world.
