What makes this tour special?
This tour is particularly suitable for lovers of Roman archeology because it epitomizes the best of what this region offers from the Roman world.
Having an English-speaking private archaeological guide throughout a day in Roman ruins like Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples offers the opportunity to make the most of your visit.
We can offer you a complete flexibility and if you wish, you can spend more time in Pompeii than in Herculaneum or elsewhere . Any schedule you might require is available and we will do our utmost to fulfil your needs.
Why should you choose this tour ?
- Under the shadow of Mount Vesuvius lie the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which have enriched the modern historians’ knowledge of the Roman world.
- This guided tour is unique because nowhere else in the world you can find ancient Roman cities almost as intact as Pompeii and Herculaneum and a museum boasting Roman everyday objects, statues and many other works of art from those ruins.
- The National Archaeological Museum of Naples is not only fascinating for large statues collection or priceless works of art, but known worldwide as the only museum with thousands of Roman everyday life objects such as combs, keys, window panes, pots, strainers, colanders, spoons, knives, mirrors, surgical and musical instruments, etc. Visiting such a unique museum and the Roman cities where these tools were discovered is an unforgettable experience.
More Details about this tour:
Meet your English-speaking guide (me), driver and his Mercedes limousine (or minivan) at your hotel or villa. Head straight to Pompeii with your private archaeological guide, for a two-hour visit. From Pompeii with your vehicle, transfer to Herculaneum for another two-hour visit with your guide. The second half of this excursion will include the National Archaeological Museum of Naples with the same archaeological guide. The Museum visit will last approx. 2 hours.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF NAPLES
The National Archaeological Museum of Naples holds one of the most extraordinary collections of Roman antiquities in the world. Its rooms boast ancient gems and the Farnese sculptures, legacy of the Bourbon kings; frescoes, statues, mosaics and all types of objects from Herculaneum and Pompeii, the famous Secret Cabinet – the collection of “obscene objects” that documents the ancient customs on the subject of eroticism.
Having visited first Pompeii and Herculaneum , a visit to the museum is a must and the best way to end the tour since the museum hosts most of the treasures found in both sites.
